In a rush? For a quick dose of movie review goodness, check out the first in our ’60 Second Review’ series. This week, Reece Gilkes takes on Robert Zemeckis’ Flight.
With it being Robert Zemeckis’ first live action film since Cast Away and with the mouth-watering Denzel Washington starring, Flight was widely anticipated to be a success. And happily, I can confirm it is exactly that. With an all star cast including Don Cheadle, Melissa Leo and John Goodman, the performances mould an emotional and thrilling drama in which pilot Captain Whip Whitaker (Washington) finds himself an American hero after safely landing a crashing plane despite being under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. With one the of the most realistic plane crashes ever been brought to cinema, the tension and drama does not stop there as Whitaker finds out how long he can keep up with his lies, as he falls further from reality. John Goodman’s appearance adds much needed humour to the film and if a brilliant soundtrack is what you look for then Flight will not disappoint.
Overall, Robert Zemeckis really hasn’t lost his touch or eye for drawing fantastic performances from actors – this is a must see.
Flight is out now.
